《forever autumn》 So, the season of the fall begins Down the crossroads in a sleepy little inn By the fire when the sun goes down But the night becomes you And the secrets of the rain Forever autumn And the season of the fall begins Out the nightlands when the thunderstorm sets in The secrets clear in the cloudy night But the night becomes you And the secrets of the rain, they will stay the same And the time will come soon With the secrets of the rain, and the storm again Coming closer every day, forever autumn And the season of the fall begins Past the passingbell, past willow weeping A ripple forms on the brinks of time But the night becomes you And the secrets of the rain, they will stay the same And the time will come soon With the secrets of the rain, and the storm again Coming closer every day, forever autumn To Autumn by John Keats J. 1 Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun, Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees, And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells With a sweet kernel; to set budding more, And still more, later flowers for the bees, Until they think warm days will never cease, For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. 2 Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store? Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find Thee sitting careless on a granary floor, Thy hair sort-lifted by the winnowing wind; Or on a half-reap'd furrow sound asleep, Dows'd with the fume of poppies, while thy hook Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers. And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep Steady thy laden head across a brook; Or by a cyder-press, with patient look, Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours. 3 Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they? Think not of them, thou hast thy music too, While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day, And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue; Then in a waiful choir the small gnats mourn Among the river sallows, borne aloft Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies; And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn; Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft The red-breast whistles form a garden-croft; And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

Flowers in the summer, Fires in the fall! 2.A Fall Song by Ellen Robena Field Golden and red trees Nod to the soft breeze, As it whispers, "Winter is near;" And the brown nuts fall At the wind's loud call, For this is the Fall of the year. Good-by, sweet flowers! Through bright Summer hours You have filled our hearts with cheer We shall miss you so, And yet you must go, For this is the Fall of the year. Now the days grow cold, As the year grows old, And the meadows are brown and sere; Brave robin redbreast Has gone from his nest, For this is the Fall of the year. I do softly pray At the close of day, That the little children, so dear, May as purely grow As the fleecy snow That follows the Fall of the year. 3.Farewell to the Farm by Robert Louis Stevenson The coach is at the door at last; The eager children, mounting fast And kissing hands, in chorus sing: Good-bye, good-bye, to everything! To house and garden, field and lawn, The meadow-gates we swang upon, To pump and stable, tree and swing, Good-bye, good-bye, to everything! And fare you well for evermore, O ladder at the hayloft door, O hayloft where the cobwebs cling, Good-bye, good-bye, to everything!
Why is the phrase "graveyard shift" used for late-night work?
Current popular explanations for the origin of the phrase "graveyard shift" reference the 19th century problem of accidentally burying people who were still alive. To prevent this from happening, the story goes, caskets were equipped with a bell-ringing device enabling a waking "corpse" to notify the world that they were no longer dead. The graveyard attendants who remained vigilant throughout the day and night worked the graveyard shift.
According to Michael Quinion at World Wide Words the above explanation is merely a story and nothing more. He explains that the "graveyard shift is an evocative term for the night shift beeen about midnight and eight in the morning, when - no matter how often you've worked it - your skin is clammy, there's sand behind your eyeballs, and the world is creepily silent, like the graveyard. The phrase dates only from the early years of the entieth century."
用法:
He suggested we should go to eat after my graveyard shift.
例如, "We have to work in three shifts to keep the pany running." 所以如果你要說(shuō)明自己上的是大夜班, 就可以這樣說(shuō), "I work on the graveyard shift."
